Till & Whitehead
was founded in 1876 by Thomas Till and Frederick Whitehead.
Their aim in those days was to provide a "One Stop
Shop" for a wide range of industrial sectors. 
During the 1990’s the
business remained relatively static and in the last
couple of years of the decade, the Board considered
the options available to it, given the difficulty in
increasing sales at a sufficient level. The options
were to contract the business to a much smaller operation,
without at least half of the range of products or alternatively
a bold acquisition policy to expand the business significantly.
In the financial year ended
March 2001, the Company expanded greatly with this acquisition
policy and purchased three similar businesses being
“Architectural Ironmongery Supplies” in
Bolton in December 2000, L Birkinshaw in Leeds in January
2001, and FR Stubbs in York in March 2001. A further
opportunity arose when Handley & Beck Ltd, (est.
1830) an engineers merchant, went into voluntary liquidation
in September 2002. This was a further expansion of the
Group with a business of similar background, ideals
and structure and which compliments the Manchester branch
more closely than the other three which are predominantly
ironmongery based.
On July 1st 2005 we acquired
the business of DIY Plastics Limited
which has been trading since 1973 and is based in a
town called Faringdon. They are a mail order business
selling plastic products to the retail / DIY user. The
business operates via mail order – which is new
to the company and we will introduce products which
the company sells already.
Till & Whitehead now offer
a comprehensive service in supplying engineering and
building consumables at competitive prices to local
authorities, building contractors, utilities, engineers
and maintenance units. Our many years of experience
in the field have made us specialists in architectural
ironmongery, fasteners, tools and allied equipment.
We offer same day and emergency
own van delivery service to local account customers
and also provide a next day and 48 hour carrier despatch.

ironmongery, fixing and fastenings, adhesives and sealants,
personal protection and workware, ladders, janitorial

Distribution
Established in 1876, we have extensive experience of
distribution from small orders to contract volume. We
offer next day delivery throughout the UK and we also
offer a same day and emergency delivery service for
local account holders.
